Wu Qu (武曲)

Wu Qu (武曲) is the star of hard resource — money that is earned rather than received, and the decisiveness required to earn it. Classically the star of both wealth and the military, which tells you most of what you need to know about how it operates.

Character

Wu Qu is direct to the point of bluntness. It decides quickly, dislikes deliberation for its own sake, and has an unusual tolerance for doing the unglamorous thing repeatedly until it works. Where Zi Wei holds a position and Tian Ji analyses one, Wu Qu simply executes.

It is the strongest wealth indicator among the fourteen, but of a particular kind: accumulation through effort and discipline rather than luck, opportunity or inheritance. Wu Qu charts tend to build slowly and hold on tightly, and often show someone financially competent well before they are comfortable.

The difficulty is warmth. Metal is sharp, and Wu Qu's directness reads to other people as coldness far more often than it intends. In the Spouse palace especially it is classically difficult — not from lack of loyalty, which is usually abundant, but from an inability to soften the delivery. The star does affection through provision and is genuinely puzzled when that is not enough.

Brightness across the twelve branches

Exalted in 丑 Chou, 辰 Chen, 未 Wei, 戌 Xu — and never fallen anywhere on the wheel.

Wu Qu grades well in the earth branches — exalted in the Ox, Dragon, Goat and Dog — and thins out in the Snake and Pig. Earth produces Metal, so the star is at its most effective standing on solid ground, which is a neat fit for what it does with money.

Reading it by palace

In Wealth this is the classic hard-working accumulator. In Career it points to finance, engineering, the military, or any trade where competence is measured rather than described. In Life it is the decisive, somewhat abrupt temperament. In Spouse, read it carefully and read the rest of the chart — the classical warnings about this placement are strong but they describe delivery, not devotion.

What it wants beside it

Wu Qu with 貪狼 is the well-known 武貪 combination, classically read as wealth arriving later and suddenly rather than early and steadily. With 破軍 the decisiveness turns destructive and the money moves fast in both directions.
