Tai Yin (太陰)

Tai Yin (太陰) is the inward star — reflection, privacy, and care given quietly rather than announced. It is the counterweight to 太陽 in the same way the moon is to the sun, and most charts are read partly through the balance between the two.

Character

Tai Yin is perceptive and reserved. It notices a great deal and says a fraction of it, prefers depth to breadth in relationships, and is more comfortable supporting than leading. There is real emotional intelligence here, though it is usually deployed privately rather than performed.

It is a star of accumulation as well as feeling — classically tied to property, savings and the home. Tai Yin charts often show someone who builds a base quietly over years: not the dramatic wealth of 武曲 or the institutional wealth of 天府, but a slow domestic solidity that arrives almost unremarked.

The difficulty is the inward turn becoming a retreat. Tai Yin is the star most associated with sensitivity that curdles into rumination, and with a tendency to withdraw precisely when connection would help. Classically it also carries the mother and the female principle, so it weighs particularly in the palaces of Parents, Property and Fortune.

Brightness across the twelve branches

Exalted in 子 Zi, 丑 Chou, 亥 Hai; fallen in 卯 Mao, 辰 Chen, 巳 Si.

The pattern is the inverse of 太陽's, as you would expect — exalted in the Rat, Ox and Pig, the deep-night branches, and thin through the Rabbit to the Rooster. Read the two tables side by side and the system's logic is unusually visible.
