Tian Fu (天府)

Tian Fu (天府) is the vault — the star of holding, conserving and having enough. Where 武曲 earns money, Tian Fu keeps it, and the difference in temperament between those two functions is the whole character of the star.

Character

Tian Fu is steady, prudent and reassuring. It dislikes risk in a considered rather than fearful way, prefers arrangements that can be maintained, and is unusually good at the unspectacular work of not losing things. In practice it reads as the person who is quietly solvent, quietly reliable, and rarely in crisis.

There is a managerial quality here that is subtly different from Zi Wei's authority. Zi Wei rules; Tian Fu administers. It is the star of the person who actually knows how the organisation works, holds the institutional memory, and is more indispensable than the org chart suggests.

The failure mode is conservatism. A storehouse that is never opened is just a building, and Tian Fu can protect its position so carefully that it never uses it. Classical texts pair it with 紫微 partly as a corrective: the emperor needs the treasury, but the treasury also needs someone willing to spend it.

Brightness across the twelve branches

Exalted in 子 Zi, 丑 Chou, 寅 Yin, 辰 Chen, 未 Wei, 戌 Xu — and never fallen anywhere on the wheel.

Tian Fu is the most consistently well-placed star of the fourteen — never below 得, exalted across the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Dragon, Goat and Dog. A full storehouse is a full storehouse wherever it stands, and the tradition treats this star as a stabiliser wherever it appears.

Reading it by palace

In Wealth and Property it is among the strongest placements in the system, pointing to accumulation that stays accumulated. In Life it is the prudent, steady temperament. In Career it suits management, administration and finance. In Spouse it describes a stable, materially secure partnership, sometimes at the cost of excitement.

What it wants beside it

Tian Fu and 紫微 sit in a fixed relationship and are read as a pair — position plus resource. Tian Fu with 天相 nearby is the classic administrative combination. What Tian Fu genuinely lacks is initiative, so a chart benefits from something in the 殺破狼 group being active somewhere.
